ALFRED J QUIROZ RX: SUITABLE FOR HOME AND OFFICE Opening Reception

October 18, 2025 7:00pm

Opening

Alfred Quiroz has been courting controversy and confronting censorship his entire life. Known for paintings, sculptures and murals that explore themes of radical injustice, political (and sexual) hypocrisy, his story is unique and truly American. Alfred fought for his country at an early age, and then afterward, was confronted with racism and hatred. Nothing held Alfred back though, and these experiences catapulted him into painting the world as he saw it, the Naked Truth.

Right out of the Navy he attended the SF Art Institute (while a bogus pot conviction had him spending the weekends in jail). From there he studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, meeting Marcia, a graphic artist and typesetter, who became his life partner. Back to his home town of Tucson, AZ, he got his MFA from the University of Arizona while Robert Colescot was teaching there. They became lifelong friends.

Pidgin Palace will exhibit “Rx: Suitable for Home and Office”, a collection of some of Alfred’s most confrontational, challenging and outrageous work along with a new body of work, Project 25 Porn, that borrows from the racy “Eight Pagers” (also known as “Tijuana Bibles”) of Alfred’s younger days, some of it spent behind the trigger of a 5 inch gun off the coast of Vietnam.
