Places in Pieces, vol. 4 picks up where the series left off in 2011, as a non-narrative, regionally-focused document. This installment makes its way across Eastern and Central Europe, moth-tracking from the Baltics to the Balkans, and fluttering about the Caucasus region. Specters inhabit this contemporary landscape, as the familiarity of the commonplace is rendered invisible, even ghostly, in the context of the motions of daily life. With a curiosity for the ordinary, Places in Pieces gives its attention to the discarded, disregarded and unseen, and focuses its meditation on quiet, contemplative moments. The film score, by Adam Parks (Lighting White Bison), is similarly composed of field recordings, found material and incidental improvisations, and is performed as a live accompaniment to the film. Previous volumes of the series have been exhibited and screened at venues such as Artists’ Television Access (San Francisco), Echo Park Film Center (Los Angeles), Talking Dolls Studio (Detroit), and Tacheles (Berlin). The film has a running time of 56 minutes.
