Abandoned Positions – artist talk and discussion with Iraq War interrogator, Cheryl Kopec

On occasion of the 21st anniversary of 9/11 and the resulting Global War on Terror, Pidgin Palace Arts presents an opportunity to talk to the exhibiting artists Sebastian Hirn and Lisa Hörstmann, and Cheryl Kopec, who deployed to Iraq in 2003 as an interrogator.

Between 2015 and 2018, Sebastian Hirn and Lisa Hörstmann interviewed Western peace activists who traveled from London to Baghdad in order to prevent the impending war on Iraq, Iraqi refugees, representatives of NGOs and journalists, as well as American veterans who were stationed in Iraq. With this material, they developed a multimedia installation that lends a voice to individuals who were immediately involved in the conflict but not awarded sufficient space in traditional news reporting. In addition, excerpts of select interviews are shown on TVs encased in repurposed lumber from Army surplus crates.

Free entrance and drinks.
