Claire A. Warden Selected Video Works Opening

“Becoming My Portrait,” 2024, is a silent projection. This work marks a return to the apparatus while maintaining a dialogue with Warden’s cameraless photographs. The durational self-portrait was exposed in camera with 16mm black-and-white reversal film. After development, Warden used the same process as in the “Mimesis” series to progressively break down the emulsion of the film. As the granules of silver begin to unbind themselves from the deteriorating emulsion layer, her gaze at the viewer is unflinching. She remains present whether the viewer can see her or not.
