A broad discussion with audience participation of the many intriguing facets of domestic mysticism with Mark Mitchell and Ryan Hill. Afterwards, there will be a closing party for the Mark Mitchell exhibit currently on view.
Mark Mitchel is Based in Tucson Arizona, Mark Mitchell’s contributions span art, music, and theater. His magnum opus, Mark Mitchell: Burial, a performance and installation, was showcased in a solo exhibition at the Frye Art Museum, 2013, to critical and popular acclaim. In November 2016, Burial was presented in a solo exhibition in Beirut, Lebanon. Mitchell was shortlisted for the Neddy Artist Award at Cornish, 2015, for the Artist Trust Arts Innovator Award, 2016 and 2017 and was the recipient of the Kayla Skinner Award, Betty Bowen Committee, Seattle Art Museum, 2016. His work is in public and private collections, including that of the Frye Art Museum.
Ryan Hill is an artist and educator. He’s collaborated on site-specific performances with other artists; including John Fleck, the movement collective SHRIMPS, artists Liz Young and Johanna Went. His solo work includes drawing installations and video projections and have travelled internationally as part of group shows. He holds a dual role as a tenured museum administrator and art professor with a career that spans a variety of reputable contemporary art museums including Solomon R Guggenheim Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and Yale University Art Gallery. Mr. Hill has taught at California Institute of the Arts, George Washington University, and Yale University. Hill has facilitated many artist dialogues focusing on contemporary art issues for a range of galleries, non-profits, museums, and conferences.
