Saints, Puppets, Monsters and Tongues
OPENING RECEPTION: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 7PM – 10PM
Saints, Puppets, Monsters and Tongues is a solo show that presents large-scale new work by Mariel Miranda that confronts the entanglements of migration, faith, sexuality, and labor. The series was developed while navigating the U.S. immigration system and the threat of displacement. Insomnia, repetition, and confession shape the work. Incompatible fantasies of religious iconography collide with erotic playfulness, producing figures that are at once disciplined and defiant. Devotion and desire emerge as both survival strategies and aesthetic methods.
